Business Advocates Making An Impact
Harford Chamber of Commerce

August 2017

The Harford County Chamber of Commerce has made numerous strides and celebrated countless successes since its inception in 1976, and is continuing to enhance its impact on the Harford County business community. Under the direction of an engaged Board of Directors, Angela Rose, the Chamber’s President and CEO, and a dedicated full-time staff live the mission to be the premier business advocate in the county helping members connect and thrive to create a vibrant economy across all sectors. The Harford County Chamber has implemented innovative technology to boost visibility and access to members, more impact to their events and ramped up advocacy efforts to fully back their mission.

To increase engagement, while respecting the time of the Chamber’s busy business owners and representatives, the Harford County Chamber of Commerce introduced an online portal for member access through the Chamber’s website This members’ only portal works like a social media website allowing users to connect with one another, while offering the ability to post job postings, discounts and promotions called “hot deals,” news releases and events to the Chamber’s website for public view. These features allow members to take advantage of their Chamber membership and increase business visibility from their office desktop or hand-held device.

The Harford County Chamber of Commerce is known for being one of the most active member associations in the region. Previously, the Chamber touted its jam packed calendar of events to showcase the multitude of opportunities members have to build their networks. Now, the Harford County Chamber takes a strategic approach with its events by focusing on delivering more value with content directly relating to the needs of the business community, in conjunction with network development components. Adjustments to the Chamber’s calendar have been made to allow the addition of educational seminars without inundating members for more of their time. The educational seminars are a direct response to member feedback in survey responses to offer more resources for the business community.

As the premier business advocate in the county, the Harford County Chamber of Commerce has a watchful eye on legislative issues affecting the business community. For example, the 2017 Session of the Maryland General Assembly proved to be a very active time for the Harford County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber took strong stance of support or opposition on a number of bills, to protect the best interest of Harford County businesses. The Chamber hired Chris Marchsteiner, a Legislative

Aide, who devotes his time to support the legislative efforts of the Chamber and closely monitor proposed bills and update members concerning impact.

The remainder of the Chamber staff – Jennifer Basel, Director of Marketing and Communications, Heather Irizarry, Member Relationship Manager, and Liz Jeppi, Office Administrator round out the team. All staff members are accessible to members and are dedicated to the vitality of the Harford County business community, through the extensive capabilities they offer to the Chamber.
