Chad Arrington, CFP®, The Kelly Group
Landing the job of your dreams right out of college is an enviable accomplishment, especially when the financial market is down and the position is with a successful wealth management firm. Chad Arrington (seen at left) did just that, and seven years later, he is leading The Kelly Group into the millennial market.
Arrington is poised to cultivate the boutique firm’s wealth management business to include the next generation. He discovered that financial planning would unite his passion for personal finance with his communication skills during his freshman year at Virginia Tech, so he chose the Certified Financial Planning track as his academic focus. Upon graduation, he applied for jobs all over the country. He says his proudest career moment was being awarded the job at The Kelly Group. “It was the exact position I was looking for – I was committed to the firm, and it made sense for them to bring in someone who fit the culture.”
Building his skills by writing financial plans for five advisors at The Kelly Group, Arrington learned and mastered the group’s team approach to its clients. He became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in 2012, and then rose to the “right-hand man” for Bryan Kelly, one of the firm’s principals. Arrington is meeting and advising long-time clients of The Kelly Group, who are introducing him to their children and grandchildren.
“It’s natural for families to become involved in their parents’ financial planning,” Arrington says. “The Kelly Group cultivates lifelong relationships with its clients, and these extend to the families and relatives.”

Arrington says Bryan Kelly has been his biggest influence in his professional life. “I’ve learned from the ground up by working with him directly. I wanted to meet face-to-face with clients, and he’s allowed me to serve the existing client base and continue to grow my own.”
The Kelly Group works with a variety of clients and has a team of advisors with specific niche market experience and areas of expertise. Arrington enjoys working with young professionals, families and small business owners. “We want to work with clients who understand and value our advice, and who also fit culturally with the firm,” he explains.
Describing himself as passionate, caring and driven, Arrington is well on his way to achieving his goal of upward mobility within The Kelly Group. He is helping the advisors to interview new entry-level planners. He says potential candidates will integrate with the firm’s long-term plans, be committed to its clients and be hard workers.
“The Kelly Group works as a team. All clients are Kelly Group clients, and we focus on the quality of everything we do. Our approach is to help clients prioritize and plan for the future and enjoy life today,” Arrington explains.
Spending much of his spare time at community events sponsored by The Kelly Group and on committees for various organizations, Arrington says he enjoys a “blended lifestyle” – an intermingling of work and home, rather than a separation of the two. He is studying for his MSFS (Master of Science in Financial Services) at American College, with projected completion at the end of 2017. He is an innovator of the Harford Roundtable, a group of young millennial professionals who are building a team of useful referrals across all industries. Arrington is also a member of the Cambridge New Century Council, providing insight for broker-dealer partners into the needs of advisors as they navigate the new generation of investors. In addition, Arrington is the co-chair of the Financial Planning Association of Maryland NexGen chapter, co-chair of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Committee and a member of the Resource Development Committee for Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna.
He and Daria, his wife of two years, enjoy the outdoors, hiking, running and spending time with their two dogs, Grace, a German shepherd, and Duncan, a border collie. I95
