After conducting a national search, Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County is pleased to announce that Joseph W. McGovern has accepted the position of Executive Director effective June 13th. McGovern, comes to the organization from Massachusetts with more than 20 years of non-profit executive leadership experience, and most recently served as Executive Director of the Northern Berkshire United Way.
“It has been a lot of hard work, commitment, counsel and candor as we navigated this important phase of our evolution,” stated Board President, Philip Crocker. “We are especially grateful to Jeff Foulk, our Immediate Past President, who stepped into the role of Acting Director, and not only kept the organization moving forward, but has been actively managing the Clubs and readying the staff for a new chapter of growth ahead.”
McGovern first joined the Boys & Girls Club as a nine year old looking for some fun, while his parents needed a safe place for him to be. Since then, the Club has always been in his heart and is the reason he chose his career as a non-profit executive. The Club initiated his leadership and community service training at the age of fifteen when he participated in the Senior Leaders Club. He went on to be President of that group, and eventually the Clubs’ Youth of the Year. He grew up with a dream of one day making a difference in the lives of children just like the Club had done for him.
