Freedom Federal Credit Union of Harford County, Maryland was founded in 1953 and was originally known as, “MATCOM Federal Credit Union” and served the military and civilian population of Materiel Command in Baltimore. The credit union later moved to the Edgewood Arsenal, which later become part of Aberdeen Proving Ground. To better serve Harford County, Freedom became a community chartered credit union in the year 2000 and over the years expanded its branches into Havre de Grace, Forest Hill and into two locations in Bel Air.

Freedom offers a variety of personal banking options with special programs that partner with select business groups in Harford County. This group of business partnerships include the University of Maryland – Upper Chesapeake Health Systems, Harford County Public School active and retired employees, the Harford County Realtors Association, the military and defense community of APG, as well as many other businesses throughout the county.

Susan Manning and Patrice Ricciardi are Freedom’s Business Development Specialists. Ricciardi has worked in financial services for most of her career. Manning also has extensive experience in financial sales and non-profit management with a broad knowledge of Harford County.

In this role, both Ricciardi and Manning focus their time helping the employees of Harford County businesses understand the benefits of banking with Freedom Federal Credit Union. Manning focuses her work on the APG site and the Route 40 corridor from Joppa to Aberdeen, while Ricciardi focuses on the businesses located in the remainder of Harford County.

Manning and Ricciardi have built many key relationships in the County and view their jobs quite personally. “What I enjoy most,” Manning states “is interacting with our members and potential members to help them realize their financial goals and reach their dreams in life of owning a home, purchasing a vehicle and living a financially aware lifestyle.” In addition, Ricciardi believes that by helping employees understand the strength of Freedom’s programs and services and by providing excellent financial counseling that they are able to “help employees build financial security, which makes for a happier and more productive employee.”

Being a “good neighbor” is not only in the Freedom mission statement, it is in Ricciardi and Manning’s DNA. Their passion for supporting non-profits was a perfect fit when they both joined Freedom. Their impact has been significant and has earned them both extensive recognition. Both are Harford Leadership Academy graduates and both have been recognized as ATHENA Award finalists.

They also maintain a position of leadership in the community by serving on many non-profit boards. Currently, Ricciardi serves on the Board of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce, the Bel Air Rotary (one of the oldest, charitable organizations in the world), chairs the Harford County Public Schools Citizen’s Advisory for Career & Technology, serves on the Program Coordinating Committee for the Havre de Grace Housing Authority, was a past board member of the Greater Excellence in Education Foundation, and the past Treasurer of the Women’s Giving Circle of Harford County.

Manning is also extensively involved in public service and has been appointed to the Harford County Women’s Commission, is the president of the Southern Harford County Rotary, serves on the Board of Directors for the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the Northeastern Maryland Technical Council, serves on the Foundation Board for the Arc of Northern Chesapeake, and most recently, served a three-year term as Treasurer for Women In Defense

As influential women in business, Ricciardi and Manning continue to serve Freedom members and the community through their contribution and participation in initiatives and events that contribute to the economic betterment of Harford County, its citizens and the businesses where they work. I95
