March 4 will mark the 15th anniversary of Harford County’s presentation of the ATHENA Leadership Award at the Women’s Leadership Breakfast to be held at the Richlin Ballroom in Edgewood, one of only three communities in the state of Maryland to host the event. “Not only is 15 years a milestone, but for the first time, the event is being hosted by the Harford Community College Foundation,” says Denise Dregier, Director for College and Alumni Development at Harford Community College. “I am proud to announce that proceeds from the event will support the newly established ATHENA Leadership Scholarship that will be awarded to a deserving Harford Community College student and additionally support student success initiatives at the College.
Another notable addition will be the presence of eight students from the Harford County Public School’s Young Women of Promise Program which assists students in 7th-9th grade reach their maximum potential as responsible and respectful citizens and academic scholars. Their attendance at the Breakfast has been sponsored by last year’s ATHENA recipient, Stephanie Hau, CEO of Chesapeake Environmental Management.
For the past 14 years, Harford County has presented the ATHENA Leadership Award to an exemplary leader who has achieved excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession; served the community to improve quality of life for others; and most importantly, actively assisted women to achieve their full professional leadership potential.

The Breakfast Keynote speaker will be Louise Phipps Senft of Louise Phipps Senft and Associates/Baltimore Mediation – voted “Baltimore’s Best” Mediator by Baltimore Magazine 2002, named one of “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” for the year 2004, 2007 and 2009 by The Daily Record, inducted into Maryland’s “Circle of Excellence” for outstanding leadership in Maryland (2009), and honored by Smart CEO Magazine with a Brava Award as a top CEO in Maryland in 2012.
