Everest Wealth Management Forms Partnership with Maryland Food Bank

October 2015

EWM MFB CheckEverest Wealth Management, a Towson-based retirement income firm, recently made both a financial and manpower contribution to the Maryland Food Bank. Their donation of $5,000 will support the movement to end hunger and raise awareness of the great need for access to nutrition in our state. The contribution was timed in support of the national campaign, Hunger Action Month, which is launched every September by Feeding America. The Everest team, led by Founder and President Philip Rousseaux, presented a check during their visit to Maryland Food Bank headquarters in Halethorpe on Sept. 28, when they volunteered for three hours in the food bank’s warehouse.

“We strongly encourage corporate social responsibility at Everest, and make charity and volunteerism a priority in our company culture,” said Rousseaux. “Food is such a basic and essential human need that many of us take for granted. The Maryland Food Bank does tremendous work helping families gain more regular access to nutritious meals, and our team greatly enjoyed taking action against hunger.”

Everest’s entire team of eight and Rousseaux’s wife volunteered for an afternoon shift in the food bank’s warehouse packing health and beauty kits. The team worked in tandem to pack health and beauty items in boxes to meet a certain weight criteria, seal the boxes and place on a pallet for transport to the trailers for shipment. Volunteer groups such as Everest’s team help keep the Maryland Food Bank’s 10 multifaceted programs in operation, which seek to meet the needs of food-insecure Marylanders while also working to find long-term solutions to reduce hunger in the state.

And the need is great. According to Feeding America, more than 750,000 individuals, or one in eight Marylanders, do not know where their next meal will come from. “Collaborating with companies like Everest Wealth Management is essential in meeting our goal to end hunger in Maryland,” said Maryland Food Bank President & CEO Deborah Flateman. “We are grateful for their generous donation and appreciate the Everest Wealth Management team members who donated their time to volunteer in our warehouse.”
