The Harford County community came out in full force on June 6 to support University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health’s 16th annual Senator Bob Hooper House Regatta. This event is part of the National Hospice Regatta Alliance’s effort to encourage regattas around the country in support of hospice programs. The Shore Party was held at the Concord Point Lighthouse Park in Havre de Grace and raised over $110,000.

More than 700 guests watched the race on the Susquehanna River courtesy of the Havre de Grace Yacht Club. Special burgee flags were flown on the boats to honor the memory of loved ones who had passed.

For the third consecutive year, Shore Party guests were treated to a delicious dinner donated by Texas Roadhouse of Fallston. An exciting live and silent auction chaired by June Dunn and dancing to the sounds of the band Stolen Identity rounded out the evening.

“This is yet another example of friends and neighbors helping friends and neighbors,” says Shari LoPresti, Event Chair. Her committee of volunteers was successful in increasing sponsorships this year from the business community as well as from grateful patient families. A total of 51 sponsors supported this year’s Regatta along with 100 in-kind donors. In addition to Texas Roadhouse of Fallston, Jiffy Lube of Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood and Perry Hall and I95 BUSINESS were also sponsors. A special pre-event reception was held onsite to acknowledge the sponsors.

All monies raised will support the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, an assisted living community specializing in hospice care. Specifically, these funds will enable the Hooper House to provide residential end-of-life care to families in need. Event Co-Chair and daughter of the late Senator Bob Hooper Cindy Hushon announced that 440 patient days will be covered with the money raised at this year’s event. “I feel privileged to be able to continue the legacy of my father – that of giving back,” she said.

Next year’s Hospice Regatta is planned for June 4, 2016.
