Some are called to their profession early. Such is the case for Bel Air’s Dr. Alvin Miranda. Even as a child, a trip to the dentist fascinated him. His welcoming smile for returning patients, and a steady stream of new patients, is evidence he took what his dentist recommended to heart.
Dr. Miranda attended Dental School at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation he became a U.S. Army Dental Officer and was deployed to Bosnia to provide dental care to NATO peace-keeping troops. He also served the Special Forces in Fort Bragg, N.C., as an airborne dentist.
Completing his military service, Dr. Miranda moved to Bel Air where he and his wife Carol, who also serves as office manager, are bringing up their four children. “I always wanted to have my own building to practice dentistry, and after 12 years in private practice, and with the support of patients, we had an opportunity to do so.”
His practice is at 200 Thomas St., Bel Air, on the corner with Hays Street. “The Thomas Street location is ideal as a central location in Bel Air that is easily walkable with parking for patients and staff.” Ideal location or not, the road to brining his vision to reality was fraught with challenges. Due to new planning codes and the well-known water moratorium in Bel Air, the permitting process was complex but finally came to fruition cooperatively. Dr. Miranda appreciates that his new location is pedestrian-friendly to business and offices in downtown Bel Air.
Dr. Miranda is an active member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and former President of the Harford-Cecil County Dental Association in 2010.
He offers preventative service and restorative treatment to keep smiles looking great for a lifetime. Dr. Miranda’s office features new state-of-the-art equipment to offer his patients up-to-the-minute procedures with a compassionate approach and a gentle touch that is reassuring to patients.
“Our focus is not only to provide excellent dentistry, but to provide friendly, family-oriented, personable service,” he adds. “We are aware the average person doesn’t necessarily enjoy going to the dentist; our goal is to make the experience as pleasant and positive as possible.” I95
