Equipping the Warfighter

October 2013

In 1981, Jim Foulk, an early leader in aircraft survivability, founded a small company with just a few employees in the basement of his home in Bel Air, Md., to support the U.S. warfighter with unparalleled survivability services hence the name “SURVICE.” Now, more than 30 years later and with approximately 400 employees working in locations across the country, the SURVICE Engineering Company is a nationally recognized specialist in combat system survivability, weapon system effectiveness, system safety and reverse engineering.

The company continues to provide unparalleled analytical products and services to our Department of Defense customer base, but we also have expanded and enhanced our capabilities to support the homeland security, advanced technologies, environmental and commercial markets. And through it all, we have worked hard to retain the original vision and spirit upon which the company was founded – to provide the warfighter (and others) with the safest, most survivable and most effective equipment possible.

SURVICE’s key capability areas include:

Test & Evaluation – SURVICE’s experienced test and evaluation (T&E) professionals understand the important role that T&E plays in designing, fielding and fielding combat systems. We are involved in all aspects of ballistic and nonballistic developmental, operational and Live Fire testing. We perform test planning, management, conduct, analysis and reporting; and we use the latest automated data collection tools, damage assessment processes and weapon system databases. In addition, when appropriate, we leverage capabilities and technologies from our other capabilities areas across the company to give our customers a convenient single source for all their T&E needs.

Modeling & Simulation/Software Engineering – SURVICE has proven expertise with some of the latest modeling and simulation (M&S) and software engineering tools and technologies, particularly those relating to physics-based simulation development and next-generation heterogeneous computing technology. We are experienced in a wide range of engineering and physics-based component-, system- and force-level models; and our capabilities span from algorithm and methodology development to code design and low-level optimization to configuration management and accreditation support.

Dimensional Metrology and Reverse Engineering – SURVICE operates a unique, state-of-the-art Metrology Center and can provide a wide range of in-house and in-the-field metrology capabilities, including reverse engineering, target exploitation, rapid prototyping, dimensional inspection, pre- and post-test damage assessment, 3-D geometric modeling, metrology integration support (for manufacturing and assembly), and metrology tool application and development.

Systems Analysis and Engineering – From our beginnings, SURVICE has been a leader in analyzing the composition and performance of U.S. and foreign air, land and sea combat systems and in ensuring that those systems are safe, survivable and effective. We conduct various ballistic and nonballistic analyses and systems engineering studies, including analyzing threat-target interactions; susceptibility and vulnerability reduction; platform suitability; component, system and mission performance; technology optimization; personnel vulnerability; fire prediction and mitigation; and electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) and lightning.

Information Technologies and Management – SURVICE personnel are involved in many types of information technology (IT) and information management (IM) efforts, providing testing, assessment and documentation support in the areas of information assurance (IA); NetOps and the Global Information Grid (GIG); verification, validation and accreditation (VV&A); and knowledge management. We also have
extensive database development and
management experience.

In addition, SURVICE recognizes that we are not just a business, but a member of the local communities in which we work and live. One cause that we are especially passionate about is honoring the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform (and their families) by investing in and promoting programs that support the rehabilitation, restoration and civilian transition of our injured veterans. Thus, we actively support and participate in various non-profit organizations and community outreach programs such the Fisher House Foundation, Warriors on The Green, the Air Force Marathon, and the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Aberdeen Chapter.
