When you work for a large business with hundreds of employees, and you are having an issue with your computer, printer or server, you call or email your in-house Help Desk to get the problem resolved. But what happens when you work for a small business that does not employ professionals dedicated to information technology or information systems due to lack of resources or capital? Just because your business is small, this does not mean that computer and IT needs will not arise. In fact, the IT needs of small businesses may be even more crucial as they cannot afford to shut down for hours or days until the problem is fixed.
Thankfully, for small businesses, there is a solution that allows all IT needs to be met and have your business run effectively, while not having to hire full-time staff members. Integrated Business Technologies, LLC, a full-service technology support company serving small businesses, provides comprehensive and cost-effective technology support, whether it’s done onsite or remotely. The Harford County-based business serves clients in Harford, Baltimore, Carroll and Cecil Counties.
Outsourcing your IT support needs provides small businesses with much needed flexibility when it comes to the budget, explains Dave Emswiler, President of Integrated Business Technologies. “Especially for small businesses, budget flexibility is key. Cost wise, they get a great value as they receive the benefits of having IT professionals with the knowledge and experience working for them. When businesses hire us, they get access to several IT professionals for less money than it would be for them to hire one full-time employee.”
Integrated Business Technologies offers a wealth of IT services and support (see sidebar for complete list), such as computer and server installation, maintenance and repair; network design and installation, for both wired and wireless secure networks; 24/7 service for network outages and server issues; and technology consulting of a business’s current infrastructure and recommendations on how to upgrade. Emswiler adds that Integrated Business Technologies is a Microsoft Registered Partner, Dell Reseller, Cisco Certified Partner, and Symantec Partner, and his staff is Microsoft and Cisco certified. The company’s highly skilled technicians are also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help solve any problems and answer questions.
Emswiler says that what differentiates Integrated Business Technologies from its competitors is the close relationships he and his staff form with their clients. “We develop relationships so that we understand the big picture instead of just focusing on fixing something that’s broken. We examine where their business is going so that we can suggest the best and most cost-effective solutions to their IT needs,” says Emswiler.

Utilizing his 10-plus years of experience in the IT field, Emswiler formed Integrated Business Technologies 2 ½ years ago. Emswiler worked for several different companies and in different roles – IT support for a hospitality tech company, small business tech support and as a systems administrator for a hotel management company – and took a measured approach when he launched his own business. “I wanted to build a solid business foundation the first six months before going out and attracting clients. I was fortunate to have the support of my previous employer before venturing 100 percent on my own. I also benefitted greatly from attending the Harford Leadership Academy. It was an invaluable experience for me, and since I am not originally from Harford County, it gave me a whole new perspective on the County.”
Emswiler says he has utilized a few networking groups in the area and joined the Harford County Chamber of Commerce to meet potential new clients. “By far, though, the No. 1 way we attract new clients is through referrals of current clients. They are pleased with our work, so they pass along our name to their friends and other business owners they know,” he says. Emswiler says he currently has three employees, but he hopes to hire more IT professionals as his company grows. I95
