Wini Roche, Tourism Manager for Harford County was recognized as Tourism Advocate of the Year by the Maryland Tourism Council at the 32nd Annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit held on November 15that the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge, MD.
Roche was honored for her leadership role in spearheading Tourism Day in Annapolis where over 200 tourism industry members from all over Maryland come to Annapolis to meet with legislators to communicate the many positive impacts that tourism has on state and local economies.
“The success of Tourism Day is largely due to the efforts of Wini Roche said David Reel, President & CEO of the Maryland Tourism Council. The event is of vital importance to Maryland’s Tourism Industry because we have the opportunity come together as an industry to thank our elected officials in Annapolis for their support and tell our story about the 131,000 Marylanders who are directly employed by the tourism industry and the $14 billion in visitor expenditures the state realized in 2011”.
As Legislative Chair for (MDMO) the Maryland Association of Destination Marketing Organizations, Roche has also continued to coordinate the Tourism Works for Maryland campaign since 2009 including publications, advertising, displays, and a website www.tourismworksformaryland.com that communicate the economic impact of tourism in Maryland.
Rachelina Bonacci, Chair of MDMO credits Roche’s efforts with a heightened awareness around the state of the economic impact of Tourism. “Wini’s advocacy work supports the thousands of jobs and small businesses that keep our tourism industry growing and will help ensure that investment continues on the local and state level so that all Marylanders may enjoy a better quality of life and a vibrant economy.”
Ms. Roche also received the Tourism Advocate Award in 2010.
More than 280 tourism professionals from Maryland and surrounding states attended the 32nd annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit in November sponsored by The Maryland Tourism Council, the Maryland Office of Tourism Development and the Maryland Tourism Development Board.
In addition to the array of learning opportunities at the Summit, excellence in the industry was recognized in a variety of areas. The Maryland Tourism Council presented six (6) individual achievement awards and ten (10) marketing achievement awards;
